Are you still a product of your family, even if they were never there? What is a part of your identity when the settings and the close rolemodels are gone?
Marco Marzocchi (b. 1974) is an Italian photographer who, with his visual diary Oyster, seeks to understand the reason behind his parents’ absence, and what their absence has done to him as a person. He uses archival photos to ransack a past which was often tainted by frustrations and violence, as a part of his own grieving process and as an attempt on replacing the pain of his lacking parents with forgiveness and love.
“they both died young. Drugs, addictions, jail and dysfunctional environment, these were constant elements. This work is focused on dealing and replacing all the doubts and the fears that I had. Exorcising the pain and the searching for love” – Marco Marzocchi.
